About NEHD:
New England Homes for the Deaf, founded in 1901, is a life plan community that offers a continuum of care to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing seniors, including independent living, rest home, skilled nursing community, Deaf senior centers, short-term rehabilitation services, respite care services and hospice care. The New England Homes for the Deaf mission is to provide long term healthcare, housing, recreational activities and social support for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing individuals in an accessible, barrier-free, and culturally sensitive environment with optimal communication and architectural resources.
Responsibilities:
- Available to work a true per diem role. Shift times may vary from 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM, 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, or 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
- Cooks/prepares meal according to menu posted in the kitchen.
- Serves meals to each resident, noting their likes and dislikes.
- Cleans cooking utensils, stove and sink after their use.
- Sweeps and damp mops kitchen and pantry floors at each shift.
- Prepares food for special diets.
- Must follow a 3-week cycle menu and read recipes.
- Prepare fancy dishes, pastries.
- Trains and supervises Diet Aides to set, clear, and wash tables; wash dishes (May be expected to assume these duties in absence of Diet Aide.)
- Perform other duties as assigned by Food Service Director
- Adhere to Attendance policy.
- Must attend all mandatory in-services.
- Responsible for checking working schedules within the department when they are posted to ensure that there is daily adequate staffing for facility/residents.
Requirements:
- Must be able to work a 2-week rotating schedule as needed.
- Pleasant temperament
- Restaurant or healthcare related cooking experience is required.
- Must be Serve Safe Certified
- All staff are required to take our free, on-site ASL and Culture classes.
- White polo shirt, black slacks, and hair net or cap must be worn at all times.
