Position Summary –

Working with and under the direction of the winemaker and assistant winemaker, you will be involved in hands-on production work that covers time in the cellar (60%), lab (20%), and vineyard (20%). This position requires meticulous attention to detail and winemaking protocols to ensure we are making wine at the highest level.

Job Duties- Cellar (60%) •  All aspects of cellar work •  Inventory and ordering •  Cleaning Chemicals •  Gasses and SO2 •  Winemaking supplies (with input from Winemaker) •  Maintain and improve cellar organization, suggest improvements •  Help to ensure that cellar protocols are being met to ensure wine quality •  Recommend new cellar protocols to increase wine quality and efficiency. •  Responsible for barrel receiving, QC, inventory, and record keeping in VinTrace

•  Laboratory (20%) •  Sampling •  Lab work (Free/Total SO2, pH, TA, ML/VA/RS via autospectrophotometer, alcohol, Brix, etc) •  Equipment maintenance •  Supply ordering •  Validation and entry of results into VinTrace •  Maintain all laboratory records (binders, ETS info,) •  Bottling QC (with assistance from assistant winemaker).

Vineyard (20%) •  Vineyard data collection throughout the year •  Disease monitoring (virus counts, working with SFC on GIS) •  Crop Load and Maturity Sampling •  Manage Fruition data, •  Data analysis and write summary reports

Winemaking •  Set up, participate in, production tastings. •  Research winemaking techniques and protocols and suggest improvements to current protocols and equipment •  Keep barrel tasting files up to date •  Maintain cellar tracking binder

Safety •  Assists management to always provide safe and healthy working conditions. •  Immediately reports all unsafe conditions, work-related accidents (including by outside parties), and illnesses to Safety Coordinator and supervisor. •  Responsible for monthly safety walk through and follow up on action items •  Harvest cellar management under direction of Winemaker •  Intern instruction and training in the winery •  Responsible for Crushpad organization and management with or without an intern (dependent on tonnage). •  Organizing the interns and harvest help, in particular, the afternoon crew

Inventory •  Assist with monthly inventory as needed by finance and sales

QUALIFICATIONS •  Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Fermentation Science/Viticulture/Enology/Horticulture or related field. •  3-4 harvests experience at high level wineries •  Experience with laboratory environment, equipment, and safety procedures. •  Proficient in MS Office suite, VinTrace (desirable). •  Ability to work largely unsupervised and independently but with high levels of accountability. •  Excellent written and oral communication skills. •  Strong organizational, creative problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow. •  Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within shifting priorities with enthusiasm. •  Acute attention to detail. •  Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. •  Strong interpersonal skills. •  Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels. •  Creative, flexible, and innovative team player. •  Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method. •  Bilingual, English/Spanish skills a plus.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: •  Walk, kneel, bend, and stand. •  Taste and smell. •  Lift up to 50 pounds. •  Reliably detect wine aroma and taste characteristics and defects. •  Ability to work at heights, i.e. catwalks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: •  A percentage of work time may be spent in a wine warehouse or cellar where temperatures are cool and noise level is usually moderate. •  A percentage of work time is spent outdoors in vineyard conditions. •  Occasional exposure to caustic or hazardous substances, such as sulfur dioxide or ozone.
