Job Role Summary The Epidemiology Department at the Marion County Public Health Department is seeking a masters-level intern with an interest in overdose/substance use prevention. Essential Duties Apply epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming and software, as applicable Ability to analyze and interpret health data as it relates to non-fatal and fatal overdoses Select communication strategies for different audiences and sectors Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation Describe the importance of cultural competence in communicating public health content Perform effectively on interprofessional teams Apply advanced descriptive and analytical epidemiology to assess health status and the burden of the overdose epidemic Interpret and apply epidemiologic research methods and findings to the practice of public health. Demonstrate the ability to identify and use existing key sources of epidemiologic data at the local, state, national, and international level Demonstrate basic data management and analysis skills using statistical software such as SAS by translating raw epidemiologic data into actionable public health information Other duties as assigned Associated Job Duties The main role of this intern is to support the Marion County Public Health Department’s (MCPHD) work through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Overdose Data to Action: Limiting Overdose through Collaborative Actions in Localities (OD2A: LOCAL) grant. This may include data collection and analysis, report writing and/or designing, describing current programs and policies, and offering suggestions for the future of the OD2A program. Data may be qualitative or quantitative.
