TITLE: Optician REPORTS TO: Director of Optometry with oversight by Chief Medical Officer WORK WEEK: Scheduled in the clinic 40 hours per week. WAGE CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, hourly OSHA RISK CLASSIFICATION: High

SUMMARY POSITION STATEMENT:   The successful Licensed Optician delivers excellence to provide a professional and positive experience for all patients, customers, and colleagues. Commitment to deliver excellence in customer service and satisfaction. Driving of sales and controlling expenses. Accountability to achieve personal and clinic goals. Execution of effective operational and procedural processes. Engaging with patients and customers to fulfill prescriptive eyewear needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

  • Measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
  • Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
  • Assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
  • Responsible for timely processing of lens orders to labs
  • Delivering exceptional customer service
  • Trouble shoot optical complaints
  • Maintain records of customer prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
  • Track inventory and sales
  • Teach contact lens insertion and removal
  • Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise.
  • Communication with Doctors, co-workers, and patients effectively
  • Evaluate and treat patients within the privilege range granted by the PCHS Board, and within the scope of training, capabilities, and license criteria as a health care provider.
  • Be a patient advocate.
  • Coordinate health promotional activities.
  • Provide patient follow-up as necessary for continuity of care.
  • Coordinate care with other health care providers when referrals are necessary.
  • Be familiar with and follow adopted PCHS community health center standards of care.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation regarding patient contacts within (EMR) patient charts.  Will follow the 72-hour rule for charting.
  • Must past drug test and state required background.  

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education :  High school or equivalent

License: AK dispensing optician license (preferred) as required by state of AK, Optical

Experience: 3 years optical experience preferred.
