FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 

Your role:  FMI  is seeking a  Manufacturing Supervisor!  The primary responsibility for the position is to provide leadership and strategic alignment for a manufacturing area. This position directs the overall activities of manufacturing area, optimizing resources to maximize operations and contribute to business profitability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervises department including determination of work schedules and priorities, performance evaluation, training and cross training opportunities, administration of disciplinary actions, hiring, terminations
  • Executes production schedule as defined by production planning
  • Support schedule compliance, lead, and cycle times
  • Administers the HSEP program for the department and/or manufacturing area; accountable for compliance with and enforcement of all corporate and regulatory HSEP standards and procedures
  • Implements and adheres to the Quality System
  • Prepare for and participate in ISO and/or customer audits
  • Act as a coach and leader with team members
  • Solicit and facilitate input from team members
  • Develops and/or revises standard operational and working practices; Monitors department workers to ensure compliance with standards
  • Resolves operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays
  • Manages and approves time and attendance
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves data and analyzes production data for continuous improvement
  • Drive Continuous Improvement via metrics; actively lead and participate in team’s continuous improvement teams, Lean 6S/Kaizen events
  • Determines root causes to problems and develops tangible corrective actions
  • Completes action/projects on timely manner
  • Readily communicate with all in an open and respectful manner
  • May be asked to handle hazardous waste per hazardous waste procedures
  • Expected to maintain all housekeeping items and follow all housekeeping procedures
  • Expected to follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment; Assist employees in reporting any safety infractions or problems

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial/manufacturing technology, Engineering, Business Management or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience in relevant manufacturing environment
  • 3-5 years experience in a relevant leadership or supervisory role
  • Extensive knowledge of department processes
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in a team-based organization
  • Excellent interpersonal, team-building, and problem-solving skills
  • A strong sense of urgency with a “get the job done” attitude
  • A strong customer focus (internal and external)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally
  • Experience in performance management, effective coaching and leading a team
  • Ability to complete tasks and follow up in a timely manner and sense of urgency
  • Understanding of manufacturing supply chain systems and shop floor control
  • Understands basic OSHA compliance laws
  • Ability to deep dive/root cause/corrective action and implementation of solutions

Preferred:

  • Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement Background
